The Wall Street Journal today announces that Alaska Airlines (are there any airports there?) will be the first to offer Wifi in the Sky in the world. So what’s happening in Europe?

Lufthansa did a test project with Boeing in the past called ConnexionbyBoeing. They did not succeed due to a lack of interest. But that was 2003! Now everybody has WIFI cell phones, and wireless enabled laptops.
Ryanair in the meanwhile are awaiting an approval to go forward with their wifi in the sky. Just to enable you to gamble online while in the sky! Neat.
AirFrance-KLM are talking about “technically feasable” (everybody knows that). But they are unsure whether there will be a sufficient demand. The probably aren’t ready yet with their tests to make sure you don’t crash the plan while opening your laptop.
I’m particularly interested by what’s happening in the airlines business. First of all because I’m in and out planes that much (140 flights a year) and I have a business interest too
.
This is something I would like to have in all planes I’m getting in. In Air WIFI. Virgin America is foreseeing this Gizmo in their planes in the first quarter of 2008.
